The VSS formed in Boulder, Colorado, in January 1995 and ended in July 1997. Former Angel Hair members Sonny Kay and Joshua Hughes joined Andrew Rothbard and Dave Clifford to form The VSS, which built on dissonant post-hardcore by expanding its scope and experimenting with sinister synthesizers, angular guitars, and haunting vocals. Reaching into the darker realms of post-punk, psychedelia, and early industrial music, The VSS make a profound mark during their short tenure. The band relocated to San Francisco, toured the U.S. twice, Europe/UK once, released a series of 7-inch EPs, and their only full length album. Nervous Circuits.
