Bastro

Formed in 1987 by former Squirrel Bait guitarist David Grubbs, Bastro began as an angular-yet-melodic post-hardcore band that included bassist Clark Johnson (also a Squirrel Bait alum) and soon enlisted drummer John McEntire (replacing the drum machine from the band’s first release). Sing The Troubled Beast, the second Bastro album, became a high-water-mark for the indie rock underground at the dawn of the 90s. Bundy K. Brown later replaced Johnson and Bastro eventually morphed into Gastr del Sol.
